Description

Tiger Sheep is an American independent game studio made up of John-Michael Davis and Steven Robinson. They make business training videos to make money, and make video games whenever they have the chance to. They are currently running a fundraising campaign to fund their side project, the 10,000 Hours blogging experiment.

History

Early history

Tiger Sheep was founded in 2012 by John-Michael Davis, who was looking to escape the corporate world and do something with his life that he enjoyed. Years prior, John-Michael helped found Orchestra, an SAP Business One Gold Partner. When the chance came to sell his stake in Orchestra, John-Michael jumped on it and founded Tiger Sheep. The goal was to become self-sufficient on a side project, and then to expand and make video games. That side project turned into BusinessOneTraining.com, a site that sells subscriptions to training videos. In March of 2012, John-Michael hired Steven Robinson. A digital art graduate from Eugene, Oregon, Steven took over all things media for Tiger Sheep and built the business training site.

Current history

BusinessOneTraining.com finally pays the bills, and now Tiger Sheep is left with three days a week to make video games. John-Michael and Steven are both avid indie gamers, and love games that modernize classic genres. They began work on a platformer/metroidvania game in August, using the Impact engine so that their games can be used on any device/computer that is HTML5-ready. While they worked on their first game, they realized that they really wanted to do something interesting with the company, and brainstormed the 10,000 Hours project.

The 10,000 Hours project

Tiger Sheep wants to turn their time making video games into an experiment. Taking inspiration from the Dan Plan, (A blogger that left his job to take 10,000 hours attempting to become a professional golfer) Tiger Sheep wants to make their game design experiences open to the world for 10,000 hours. The idea is to blog about every single facet of their process, to keep a public record of what it takes to make excellent games from scratch. They set up a Kickstarter, with the goal of getting $5000 to fund the blogging side project. In return, backers are being given all of Tiger Sheep's games for the entirety of the 10,000 Hours project, and other bonuses. The Kickstarter launched in late August, and received almost 20% of its goal in two days.
